Students “struggle” with study books caused by internet
Current students are finding it more difficult to concentrate on information in traditional study books. The reason being their over-use of internet.
This is according to British scientist David Nicholas, who has been studying internet behaviour for many years. The brain and thought patterns of the generation of students who have grown up with the internet have formed new structures, according to Nicolas. These students are used to flitting between various websites and are thus less able to concentrate on information from one source, such as a study book.
Nicolas’ findings featured in an article in the Daily Telegraph on 11 February 2010. According to the scientist, the internet affects our way of thinking. Future generations will be left incapable of linear disciplines like reading and writing at length. Our ‘associative’ thinking, however, will improve.
